Late Dr. K J R Murthy obtained MBBS degree from Gandhi Medical College, Osmania University and MD in Internal Medicine from Guntur Medical College. Andhra University.

He started his career as Civil Assistant Surgeon, Andhra Pradesh Medical Services, India and moved to Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad as Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1967. In 1978 he became the Honorary Consultant Chest Physician, Yoga Research Institute, Hyderabad. He joined Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre, Hyderabad in 1983 and was appointed its Director in 1995. He became the Medical Director of Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre in 2005.

Dr. Murthy was a doyen of respiratory medicine and a pillar of Indian Chest Society. Dr. Murthy published more than hundred research papers in reputed journals and contributed articles to various books. In his earlier years of research Dr. Murthy worked extensively on the treatment of human fluorosis. He was influenced by the work of Dr. K. V. Rao in using serpentine for defluoridation and as a medicine for the treatment of human fluorosis for which no medicine was known till then.

Dr. K J R Murthy was the Secretary of the Society right from its inception in 2001. He rendered help and guidance in formulating the Society objectives and giving it a direction in all its activities.
